Premier Inn at Southampton Airport - Easter 2012

After we packed up our bags and checked out from Holiday Inn, it took us about 5 minutes drive to get to Premier Inn. The ride was shorter than the packing and unpacking! But it only cost us £29 a night at Premier Inn instead of another £80 plus at Holiday Inn for a second night. Anyone will know which to choose!

The Room

The room was very spacious even with 2 single beds laid out on each side of the king-size bed. There was a good amount of room for us to move around without twisting and turning ourselves to avoid obstacles.

Everything is modern and new, and the air conditioning was working perfectly. Although situated right next to the airport, you can't hear any planes passing by inside the building. However, the bed was quite uncomfortable for me, and I woke up the next day with a back and neck pain. The TV was a bit small but good enough to entertain the children.

I was pleasantly surprised with wall mounted Carex anti-bacterial hand wash and wall mounted Imperial Leather hair and body wash. I think that as a hotel near an airport, anti-bacterial hand wash is a must.

The Food

Premier Inn was doing an offer for dinner and breakfast. For £22 per person you can have a 3 course dinner plus a drink, and buffet breakfast as well that normally costs from £7.99. Children breakfast is free.

Dinner

The restaurant was quite busy, and there were a few mistakes made by the kitchen. We even heard someone complaining to the waiter that if food was going to be late for five minutes, someone should have come out to tell her that it would be late. I think she watched too much MasterChef, or she should eat at starred restaurants.

The starters were quite nice, although I wasn't very keen at Abby's soup. We ordered the soup from their children starter menu to be served as a main, but the kitchen misunderstood the waiter and sent all the starters and mains together. The waiter was very apologetic and wanted to keep our steaks (yes, steak again, the menu choices for the £22 deal was a little bit limited) warm in the kitchen, but we didn't want to bother, and we rather not have our steaks cooked any further.

It was a good thing that we haven't accepted the waiter's offer as both our steaks were overcooked (we ordered medium and medium-rare). Hubby had a very hard time chewing his (I hadn't started mine yet) as it was so tough. We had no choice but to return them to the kitchen. The second batch was made to perfection and we both enjoyed it very much. The meal was fairly balanced, being served served with peas and grilled tomatoes.

£1 Organic baby food for 10 months plus.
We have ordered vegetarian baby food for Clay as I didn't want him to sick in my bed again that was caused by undigested meat. However, the meat version arrived. I checked the meat and since it was minced enough I decided not to make a big deal out of it. I preferred meat anyway with the protein, and I am happy as long as he can digest it, and he seemed to enjoy it.

Lemon Frangipane Tart
We shared the desserts. I quite liked the Lemon Frangipane Tart, but hubby said he could taste some bitterness. I hit a hard lump on a waffle, I'm guessing that it has been microwaved.

I think if it was not so busy, this restaurant is quite good to dine at. We did feel restricted with the menu without an option for adding extra to go for other dishes, otherwise I'm sure there were plenty of other choices we would have gone with.

Breakfast

Costa Cappuccino
One of the better buffet breakfast out there in the UK! They served unlimited Costa coffee and Twinnings tea that you can brew yourself.

They provide quite a good selection of everything. You can choose from five types of cereals, three types of milk, or soya.

They served scrambled and fried eggs, but you can also ask for boiled or poached eggs as well. I liked the sausages, which were tasty with a bite to it, but the baked beans were a bit sour for me.

Mini Chocolate Muffins!
Not only do they have croissants, brown and white bread, they also have crumpets  and mini cupcakes.

We loved their banana chips, candied fruit pieces, fruits, toasted crumpets and mini muffins. I did noticed that a few part eaten yogurts were lying around, including Abby's, perhaps it's not quite for kids?

Overall, we were very happy with Premier Inn at Southampton Airport. Although the bed was a bit hard for me, I would still go back to that branch.
