Stowells Light Wine - White and Rose

I was never a wine drinker. I see people taking big sips of it like I drink fizzy drinks but I can't do it. I am attracted by the colour of the liquid, but every time I take a sip, the strong alcohol made my eyes water. And after a few sips, I felt like I'm being forced to finish it.

When I was offered Stowells Light Wine to review, I was honest to them. But they just wanted to see what I think, so I took their offer, being attracted by the colour of the wines (so pretty!) and hoping that with only 5.5% alcohol they would be easier to drink.

I poured the white wine and rose into shot glasses, as they were the only glasses in the house that looked decent. I was also thinking that I won't have to waste the wine if I can't finish them.

I tried them without chilling in the fridge first. They smelled almost as strong as normal wines, and the longer I leave them outside, the stronger they get. They were definitely easier to drink than normal wines, but I was still uncertain. The white wine was a bit on the sour side, while the rose was stronger but still drinkable.

I thought that it was unfair to conclude my view like that, so I chilled the bottles overnight, to give them a second try.

To my surprise, I can smell and taste more flavours in the wine than before chilling them. The rose was delightful with an obvious berry note. The white wine was more refreshing, but I prefer the rose as I really like that berry smell. It even tasted sweet on the tip of my tongue!

I then had a look on their website for more information, and found out that they are best served between 10 - 12 degree Celsius. Luckily I didn't give up on them after the first try!

The good thing about Stowells Light Wine is that they contain 30% less calories than a standard glass of wine (60 calories per glass), and less than one unit of alcohol per 125ml serving. If you enjoy a glass of wine but worry about the calories, you must try these.

The white wine is made from a blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc grapes, while the rose is made from Shiraz grapes. For more information about the wines, please check out their website (the blue link above). You can buy them now from ASDA at £5.49 rrp.
