Lauden Chocolate

One of the most luxurious item my sister in law (SiL) has bought from the Good Food Show Summer 2012, was the really gorgeous, almost too good to eat chocolates from Lauden Chocolate. They each looked like a picture and according to my SiL, very indulgent too. How could a chocolate lover like me resist the temptation to try them myself? The artisan chocolatier of Lauden Chocolate has kindly send me a 12 Mixed Chocolates Box to try.

Not only were the chocolates beautiful to look at, I love their choice of container to keep the chocolates in as well. It's modern, chic, and a great way of showing off their chocolates than the traditional type of box. You can reuse the box afterwards to put your precious things in too!

The thin shells were made with 55% Dark Chocolate, giving the perfect amount of sweetness. They were tempered perfectly and gave a loud snap when I cut through them with a hot knife. When it melted in my mouth, it was silky smooth, although in some there were bits of something that I guess were traces of nuts.

The box of 12 mixed chocolates (£9.19) includes 4 of their great taste gold award winning flavours - Passion Fruit, Lychee & Rose, Mediterranean Orange and Salted Caramel, although the other flavours were delicious too.

Both the Blackcurrant & Redcurrant and Raspberry & Rose were tangy, smooth and had the odd tiny pips to add an extra texture to the smooth filling. The Raspberry & Rose was bursting with a lovely rose fragrance as well. Such a special combination!

The Marc De Champagne to me was a bit alcoholic, but the lovely warmth slowly seeped through my mouth down to my throat, which was a very nice sensation.

The award winning Passion Fruit lingers in the mouth for long. It's sharp, exotic and very fruity. I'm surprised that it went so well with the dark chocolate shell, where none was outshining the other, really inspiring! (Noting down the combination for a possible dessert recipe)

The Sour Cherry is very Oriental. It's sweet and sour in a very delicate way, but not taken over by the dark chocolate shell at all.

I really don't know how they managed to keep a balance for the Lychee & Rose. They are both very floral notes, and very similar. Yet you can taste both the Lychee and the Rose easily. The flavour and fragrance has blended very well into the sweet dark chocolate. No wonder it was another one of their award winning flavour!

Their award winning Mediterranean Orange had a back note enhancing its flavour. I can't quite put it, but it's similar to Chinese's preserved plum, giving it a slightly sweet and sour taste. It's a very unique orange chocolate blend but really nice!

The Lemon was very sharp, giving a burst of freshness through the bitterness of the dark chocolate.

Comparing to the Lemon, the citrus flavour from the Lime is a bit more subtle with more depth. Simple Origin has a velvety smooth dark chocolate ganache inside, great for those who loves truffles.

I love the runny yet a bit gooey salted caramel centre from their award winning range. It has proven that salt does enhance the flavour of sweet caramel, and I love that saltiness from Lauden's version. Their Fresh Mint chocolate has a touch of saltiness as well, which is unusual, but it worked. The mint is much more subtle than some, but it's lovely nonetheless.

Indulging in Lauden's chocolate was like going through an experience after another. Appreciate the lovely design, then take a small bite of the chocolate, letting it melt in your mouth while releasing all those lovely and amazing flavours. The only downside for me was the odd pieces had traces of nuts in the chocolate shell, otherwise it would have been perfect. They are absolutely beautiful, sitting neatly in the hard plastic container, so they will make a lovely gift for someone special. I have just placed an order for 2 boxes of mixed chocolates, and I'm definitely recommending anyone else to put Lauden Chocolate on their to give or to receive list!
