Maps International - Personalised Children's Map

As our family is quite multinational, conversations about who lives where has popped up quite a few times. But without a map, it can be very difficult to explain to Abby where Holland, Hong Kong,Taiwan and Singapore are, or why we can't just walk to Hello Kitty Land (Sanrio Land in Japan).

The customising was easy. Add a title (Abby & Clay's) and subtitle if you wish (Wonderland Map), choose Laminated and Board Mounted (if you want to use the 20% off discount code), or just Laminated (-£9.00), and then choose your background colour. You can choose from their 5 standard colours, or for another £10 you can choose the colour from a bigger palette. Then finish the design off by choosing black or white text to go with it.

For a standard background colour map that is laminated and board mounted, it cost £59, and £69 for customising the background colour. With the 20% off discount, it works out to be £47.20 and £55.20 respectively. If you choose to laminate the map without boarding it, you'll end up paying £50 or £60. Since boarded map looks better and last longer (although you can't roll it up), it's a great opportunity to get this done now in time for your child's next school year.

The discount code is thisislife20 which will expire on 1st September. Simply enter the code during checkout and choose Saver delivery to get it delivered to you for free :) Note that it only applies to the children map reviewed here. Just click on the bolded blue link above to go directly to the correct map.

The map arrived safely, wrapped in bubble wrap and hidden snuggly between 2 giant cardboards, so all corners are well protected. Do make sure you open it up and check for damage before signing for it, as they can't be held responsible once you do.

The background colour is exactly what we asked for, and I was surprised with their children friendly fonts. The map is a proper political map but much less boring for children.

Being a political map, all the country and continental boundaries, time difference, mountain peak and international date lines are there.

Both sides of the boarded map are laminated, and in between is a piece of styrofoam, so it is still light in weight. It also helps with pinning those special locations as it took minimal effort to get the pin in. A box of mixed-colour short pins are provided with the map, but do make sure you don't pin it all the way through. This shouldn't be a problem once the map is mounted on the wall.

We were happily pinning locations where our family lives, and realised that the word Taiwan wasn't on the map. It was a bit of a surprise to me as Taiwan (a whole island, which is on the map, just not specified what it was) is much bigger than Singapore (a dot under Malaysia). Not a big problem really, as a good marker will do the job ;)

If you are looking into buying a world map for your child, consider Map International, and don't forget the 20% off discount you can get through my blog :)
