Vegetarian Jelly - Agar Agar

Back in March I introduced Agar Agar to you, but the jelly wasn't cooked very well. This time I bought the most trusted Agar Agar powder and it was great!

Agar Agar doesn't wobble like gelatine does, and they have a bit more crunch to it, which is really nice in a different way. They look more attractive as they sparkle like crystals, and they are more cooling to eat than gelatine, which is great for a hot day. The fact that they are hard jellies, means that you can do more with them as well, such as using mini cookie cutters to cut them and decorate cakes with them on the top. (Imagine loads of mini agar agar stars along the border of your cake, sparkly!)

Agar Agar is still very sweet as you flavour them with sugar, and you can still add colourings (Abby chose green) and flavourings in them, just like the usual jellies. But they are much healthier as it contains a lot of fibre.

So next time you have a chance to pop into a Chinese or Asian shop, look out for these Agar Agar powder and give these healthier jellies a try!
