The Snowman: 30th Anniversary Edition Preview

The Snowman, The Snowman 30th Anniversary Edition, Walking in the Air

It has been so chilly these days, and with snow predicted for next week (yes I can assure you that it's only October), one can only think of Winter. Winter is my favourite season despite the cold. That dark purple/blue sky, dotted with dull yellow lights, and closer to Christmas the colourful displays and cosiness shining through the windows, making the chilly days that much warmer in the heart. I guess I'm quite a traditional person and love traditional Christmas. And what's more traditional than watching The Snowman with the children on a cold night with the heating and side lamps on?

Apparently it's The Snowman's 30th Anniversary this year. It's been that long already. It's such a classic that you must see it for at least once in your life. Last year we bought Abby the book, but again, the movie is still a must watch.

We were sent The Snowman's 30th Anniversary edition DVD to watch and review. I was really excited as our children had never seen it before. Just in case you really haven't seen it before, the story is about a boy who built a snowman, which came alive in the night, and their magical adventures.

The main theme song 'Walking in the Air' became one of the biggest, most well known song ever since. For some reason I connected it to the last scene when the boy discovered that the snowman has melted, so whenever I hear the song I feel a great sadness. It's a very beautiful piece though.

The 30th Anniversary edition comes with 35 minutes worth of special features, and the DVD is only rrp £6.99, while the Blu-Ray is rrp £9.99. If you don't own a copy or your old copy is, well, too old, then you should definitely consider getting it. They will be out on Monday 5th November, 2012 in all good entertainment stores.
