HK Jewellery Making Kit and Bauble

One of the Christmas gift that I have been looking forward to review is Harriet Kelsall's (HK) new children jewellery kit range. After much anticipation, they have finally launched them, and have kindly sent me 2 of their kits to review, including the seasonal Jewellery Making Bauble.

2 organza pouches filled with cute acrylic beads (ours included 6 mouse head shaped beads) and an elasticated thread long enough to make 2 bracelets were included in the Christmas hanging bauble. The beads are big enough for tiny hands to hold and they can be easily threaded together with the elasticated thread. In case children require some guidance in making their own jewellery, HK has uploaded a couple of videos to show them how to use the bauble kit, which you can find here. It's very easy to understand and follow, and they even show the children how to tie a knot. Adults can help of course to do that part if it's too difficult for them.

Although this is the smallest kit out of the 3 they currently have, I loved this kit the most as it has a 'gift' element, especially during the coming festive season. The organza pouches included are beautiful, and children can even make one and gift it away to their BFF! The bauble itself is reusable if handled with care (if pressed too hard together the edge might start to crack) and you can fill it with sweets or other little things and hang up as a decoration.

It's unfortunate that the bauble won't be available to buy online. However, if you really like it, you can ring them on 01462 790 565 to do a mail order. Do check with them what choices they have, as the one shown on the video is a yellow and red version with sweets shaped beads. If you live near their shop in Hertfordshire then you can just pop in and buy one. The Bauble Jewellery Making Kit cost only £3.95.

The second kit I was sent is their Jewellery Making Kit, which includes 5 different type of acrylic beads and 10 bundles of elasticated threads that comes in a plastic compartment box, enough for making over 20 bracelets or necklaces. Like the bauble kit, HK has uploaded 2 videos to help children with their jewellery making.

The beads are colourful and Abby really likes them. The only thing I think would be great is to have all the alphabets beads available, so that they can attempt to spell a name or two out of them. Instead, I used the first letter for their names (yes I made Clay one cos he loved Abby's rainbow necklace too much!), which worked as well. The alphabets beads are a bit smaller, but Abby had no problem threading them. A 3 years old might need a bit of help, but they can still have fun with the bigger beads.

I love it that the children can get very creative with this box of beads, as there is plenty of materials to make 20 bracelets, all for £6.95 only. You can buy this kit from their website, just scroll right to the end of their scroll bar. The kit and the Jewellery Making Kit with Pliers (£16.96).
