Abby and Clay enjoys playing with figurines, which we are happy with as it promotes imagination play. They have a more than healthy collection of figurines, and of course have their favourites. Clay would normally carry his favourite one(s) around the house, although Abby, as she's more knowledgeable (comparing to Clay of course!), would restrict herself to leaving them at the play area (which is preferred to us!). A figurine that can be carried around the house without restricting her movements, and won't end up in a corner covered in dust would certainly be great for all of us. Then we were introduced to Shoulder Buddies, which is just that.
Shoulder Buddies are these funky, collectable little birdies that can sit on anyone's shoulder without falling off it. The secret is the 'magic coin', which is a magnet to keep the magnetic birdie in place. They have crazy but really soft hair that reminded me of the ever so popular trolls figurines, and are attractively colourful. Each of the Shoulder Buddies has a name and a unique pattern on their belly that represents a 'Smart'. Each 'Smart' is a social skill or good behaviour the Shoulder Buddies would like to share with their big friends, and the 'Smarts' card will show them all the Buddies there are to collect.
Both our children loved their new Shoulder Buddy Harmony, who carries a 'Unity Smarts'. Her plan is to UNITE our world! The magnet is strong enough to keep Harmony in place, and Abby has been creatively 'sticking' her Buddy everywhere including towels and curtains, Clay's sleeve (it made him giggle), etc. She adores her Buddy's hair and has been asking me to tame it after she's failed to shape it back to how it was.
Wave 1 was launched last year in the UK (it's really popular in the US and they already have 6 waves plus 4 special collections!), containing 8 Buddies to collect. They've just launched wave 2 in January, and joining them this month is the special editions Gemstone Shoulder Buddies and Hello Kitty Shoulder Buddies. Abby would certainly be a big fan of that! Hello Kitty has standing poses too.
The Shoulder Buddies are retailed at £4.99 each, and you can buy them from Golden Bear's website as well as any good toy stores.
