Frankie & Benny's Specials

Frankie & Benny's, Specials Menu, Meal Deal

Last week we visited Frankie & Benny's again to try out their new Specials Menu. We reviewed their usual menu and cocktails last time, which was fantastic, so it's nice to see how their specials are.

Their Preston Capitol Centre branch is fantastic. Clean, fab music, spacious and very family friendly. Staffs are friendly and there are more than one birthday party all the time.

Clay was asleep in the trolley when we arrived, and the staff was kind enough to seat us where we can keep the trolley open. We ordered large drinks for the hot day to start with, and 2 Apple and Orange juice for the kids from the kids menu. Both me and Abby were surprised with the full size juice they get, which normally comes in a half pint portion in other restaurants. I was a bit worried with the amount of sugar they are getting from them, but the juice was just right for kids, and I was happy to let them get on with it.

Their Specials menu are available all day from Sunday to Friday and are only £10.95 for 2 courses or £13.20 for 3 courses, which I think are fantastic. For starters, we've ordered their Crab Bruschetta and BBQ Chilli Wings, and for the kids we've ordered Chicken Pasta from the kids menu and Cheesy Chicken and Sweetcorn Pasta Bake from the junior's menu.

Kids meals:
I've certainly made a mistake with the children's meals, as my 2 could have just shared the kid's main instead, and to be honest, the junior pasta bake and kid's pasta was almost the same, just that one has more sauce and sweetcorn, and it's baked lightly. Taste wise there really isn't much difference (to me anyway). We liked that there was plenty of chicken that was flame grilled and it's healthy with seasoning just right for the kids (Abby said it's really tasty and Clay ate quite a bit too).

I have been wondering why the children menus didn't come with vegetables, apart from a tomato and cucumber as garnish. While writing up this post, I realised that they do have a salad or baked beans as an optional side as well, but we were never told about this. Come to think of it, we weren't asked either last time we came here! That aside, I'd also like to see something like a fruit salad, perhaps with a dip, to be added to their children menu, to give fussy kids another option for fibre intake.

Starters:
Their BBQ Chilli wings were quite tasty and the sweet and sourness is great to start the meal. The chicken wings are cooked nicely without any burned bits and are very juicy too. I didn't realise however that they were suppose to be spicy, it could have been because it was milder than I'm used to. The dip was absolutely lovely, although both me and hubby agreed that it wasn't really needed for the wings.

My Crab Bruschetta was slightly disappointing though. The Bruschetta was very fresh, which I enjoyed. But we both think that the onions in the crab salad has overpowered the whole starter, and we couldn't quite taste the delicate flavours of the crab meat. The water cress didn't came with a dressing, but it was delicious with the dressing meant for the bbq chilli wings.

Mains:
I think the heat wasn't helping me think straight and I ordered a Chicken Carbonara Bake for myself, so technically I've ordered 3 different sized portions of white sauce chicken pasta haha. Mine was of course way tastier than theirs in my opinion. Hubby ordered their BBQ Pulled Pork Pasta Bake, so he also ended up with 2 lots of BBQ flavoured dishes for the night!

I loved my carbonara bake, which came with plenty of pancetta bacon, chicken and other ingredients. It was delicious, though I would have loved the cheese a bit more cheesy. Hubby's pulled pork pasta bake was really yummy too, with really tender pulled pork meat.

At the end, because I ordered too much for the kids, we ended up with a full main to bring home, which was a mix of the 3 white sauce pasta. I loved the container they used, which is microwavable and you can reuse it a few times for other food too.

We were stuffed but we are not one to say no to dessert, especially when the 3 course is only £13.20, and their choices was fantstic! There was Salt Caramel Cheesecake and Banoffee Brownie, and we ordered their Apple & Raspberry Crumble and Mint Choc Waffle. We also ordered a Strawberry Ice-cream Sundae and Banana & Custard for the kids.

The Mint Choc Waffle was really nice and who knew that mint choc ice-cream goes so well with cinnamon waffle? I loved my Apple & Raspberry Pie, the custard was warm and divine, and there was only a mild tanginess in the fruit filling. The raspberry was really fragrant, no wonder it's always on famous dessert chef's ingredients list.

The kids' desserts are lovely too, though I would only order one meal for my kids to share next time until they both grow up a bit more.

We think that Frankie & Benny's has one of the most baby friendly toilet fascilities out there. They actually have nappies, nappie bags, wipes and even baby lotion too in the toilet (at least the gents)! Apparently they were playing learn Italian language audio tape in the toilets as well. Hubby said he has learned quite a few Italian words while waiting for Abby. When he told me I was really amused and I applaud them for promoting their language and looking after the babies (or dads) too!

Overall we have enjoyed our visit as usual. We were comfortable, food was mostly delicious, and we appreciated that they are very family friendly. The Specials menu has a lovely selection of food, and the deal is fair. Children were entertained with their Kiddy packs as well, though I would appreciate it more if they have made us aware of the side choices for the children meals, which would make the meals more balanced.
