Bosch IXO BBQ and PSR 10.8 LI-2 Cordless 2-Speed Drill/ Driver

Bosch Green Powertools, IXO BBQ, PSR 10.8 LI-2 Cordless 2-Speed Drill/ Driver

I wanted to post this up weeks ago, but because of our holiday trips, we haven't got a chance to review this impressive tool until now. Bosch's new IXO Barbeque Cordless Screwdriver is a very clever tool and is a great BBQ companion for anyone who would like to set up a barbie in about half the time needed!

The compact Bosch IXO Cordless Screwdriver comes in a stylish metal tin box, with a BBQ Fan attachment on top of the 10 screwdriver tips, charging dock, wrist strap and instruction manual. There are 2 trigger switch and the soft grip makes it more comfortable to use.

What's so special about the IXO Barbeque Cordless Screwdriver is the BBQ fan attachment. With the attachment, the fan blows just the right amount of air into the fire, speeding up the coal's burning time, making it quicker to start up and settle the fire, so it'll be ready for cooking sooner.

When we tested it out, we left the fire to settle at the beginning after it has started as we needed time to prepared the food. By the time the food was ready for cooking, it was already dark. If we have used the tool throughout, the fire would have been ready much earlier.

As we are fairly impatient people, and we always start our fire late, we normally started cooking before the fire is ready, which means that we tend to burn our food. With the IXO Barbeque Cordless Screwdriver (who would have thought?!), our fire was ready in no time, and we actually get to enjoy some well cooked but not burned burgers!

Hubby was well impressed with the tool and attachment, and he really enjoyed testing it out. Like using other BBQ tools, hands can get quite hot when they're near the fire for a period of time. There is probably no need to get too close to the fire for the attachment to work.

The fact that it's a screwdriver means that the tool is not left covered in dust when the BBQ season is over. When I build our IKEA cupboard and bookcases, I had to use a normal screwdriver as my hubby's power tools were too bulky. The compact cordless screwdriver is small and light enough for ladies to use, and with 10 different tips, it should cover most of the DIY jobs at home. The built-in light will help me to see in dark corners, and as it uses Lithium-Ion battery, I can count on it not dying in the middle of a job (there is an indicator showing the direction and the battery level as well). This tool will certainly be helping me with many more DIY projects to come!

The IXO BBQ Cordless Screwdriver is retailed at £49.99, which I think is value for money as it's such a versatile tool. It can be bought from all good DIY stores as well as on Amazon UK.

Apart from the Bosch IXO BBQ, I was also sent their PSR 10.8 LI-2 Cordless 2-Speed Drill/ Driver to review. Both under the same Bosch Green range, which is made for DIY users, the quality is guaranteed, and this is based on experienced powertool users' opinion.

As I'm not really a technical person, it's quite difficult for me to tell you why the tool is better than others. For the technical details and full list of functions, it's best if you visit Bosch's official website. From a DIYer's point of view, however, I think it's the tool that all household should have for most of the jobs at home. If not this one, then the PSB version, which includes impact drill (hammering) function as well (for the same price!).

The drill/ driver is fairly small and light in weight compared to other similar tools. Although slightly bigger and heavier than the IXO BBQ screwdriver, it's still easy to use for ladies, and I think that it's quite important as I know that a lot of us are keen to do things ourselves instead of waiting for the gents to do it. Having said that, *chuckle*, I think I'll be mostly using the IXO Cordless Screwdriver for flat pack jobs, while hubby uses the drill/ driver, as it's better with the more powerful jobs (it has 2 gear settings) like drilling into metal.

The drill/ driver takes an hour to fully charge its long lasting Lithium-Ion battery, which, according to Bosch, gives you enough power to drive 250 screws without interruption. The built-in LED light for drilling guidance will come in handy in darker corners in the house, and there is also a LED indicator indicating the direction (screw in or out) and gear the tool is in.

The tool is retailed at £99.99. Seeing that it also acts as an electric screwdriver on top of the drill, the price is worth it if you are seeking one quality and long lasting tool to do both. You can buy the 10.8 range now from all good DIY stores and Amazon UK as well.
