Christmas Gifts from Japan Centre

Japan Centre, Bento, cute anime products

Any of you know any children who are really into everything Japanese, including manga, animations and other cute things from Japan? I obviously do, and having visited Play Expo in Manchester, I've seen a lot of others liking everything Japanese too! So why not buy something for them this Christmas that's more Oriental?

There is a lot of shops around the country and on the Internet that sells Japanese products, but Japan Centre have some fairly unique ones that will make great gift. Some are only sold in a few places in the whole World including UK's Japan Centre, for example, the really adorable Hakoya Kyoto Kokeshi Doll Bento Box! We were sent a Maiko (apprentice Geisha) version of the bento box to review, as well as the almost good enough to eat Iwako Food Erasers - Japanese Sweets.

The Hakoya Kyoto Kokeshi Doll Bento Box range (£19.99 each) is just too cute! And since you can't get it from the high street, they will certainly be the centre of attention during lunch time! They are also microwave and dishwasher safe (apart from the inner opaque lid; English heating guide included). The top bowl can hold 240ml of wrapped food, and the bottom 2 compartments can each hold 200ml.

Initially I thought that they seem quite small, but when I managed to put a whole lot of noodles (the noodles on its own is enough to make Abby full and satisfied) in one compartment, I was really impressed! It can store a lot of food after all! For sandwiches I'd probably cut them into quarters, put 2 quarters in each compartment, and place the other bits and bobs around them to fill up the space. Or I can put pasta in one and fruits and other dried food in the other. As the middle compartment comes with a tight lid, it can easily store wet/ saucy/ liquid food without any leakage as well, and the belt that's designed to sit perfectly along the side of the dolls held everything tightly too so they won't fall apart.

The bento box also comes in (from left to right in the picture above under Maiko) Samurai, Hanako (traditional Japanese girl's name) and Ichiro (traditional Japanese boy's name). Making bentos are getting more and more popular in the UK, wouldn't it be fantastic if all the effort is stored in such a lovely bento box? They are very popular so keep your eyes open for stock!

Aren't these Iwako Food Erasers (£4.99) cute?! Japanese are famous for their miniature food figurines (Sylvanian Families' are just one of them!), and even their erasers look just like real food! Apart from the food tray and the cocktail stick, the rest are all erasers and can actually be used. But will you? I don't think we will! They have a lovely selection to choose from and even collect, and the next on our list will be the Cakes and the Fast Food! They'll certainly make fantastic stocking fillers!

Japan Centre have much more to give, and a lot comes directly from Japan. It's really worth taking a good look at their food and gifts, especially if you are buying for fans of all things cute and Japanese!
