Legoland Windsor - Easter 2014

Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Lego

After so many years, we've finally decided to take our first visit to Legoland Windsor, and it was AWESOME! We were very lucky that Abby's school started their Easter holidays a week earlier, so we managed to buy a fairly cheap 2 days entry plus 1 night accom package! Like the Easter we went to Peppa Pig World, it was chucking down on one day and really sunny on the other, but we had a fab time on both days! Going there on a rainy day has it perks, we haven't encountered an unbearable queue at all!

Day 1:

I should have been in there. I might be in the next one towards the end of my #Slimpod journey!
Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Legoland Windsor Hill Train
A massive sweet "stop" right next to the Hill Train, luckily it wasn't open yet!
We were totally impressed with all the LEGO models placed around the park! How many LEGO bricks are there actually in the World?!

When we got to Legoland, we've taken other bloggers advice and jumped straight on the Hill Train to get to the far side of the park first to avoid queues (though with the rain we didn't really have much to worry about). We went straight for one of Legoland's most popular ride - Atlantis Submarine Voyage.

It was pretty cool to see the LEGO Atlantis underwater, with real fish and shark too! There were plenty of well maintained fish tanks around inside the building, as well as a long open tank for kids to explore sea life (comes with sink and sanitisers of course).

Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Legoland Windsor Boating School

Next we visited the Boating School, which has a moving queue so it wasn't bad at all. I only realised that you are suppose to operate the boat yourself with the accelorator when we got on. I was expecting it to move itself haha. Obviously me and hubby had to serve the kids by stepping on the accelorator while they had fun steering the boats into walls and corners!

Next was Driving School. The boys went to the age 3 to 5 learning school while me and Abby went to the one for 6 to 13 year olds. I heard that hubby distracted Clay, causing him to drive straight into the garage! Tut tut! I'm surprised that Abby passed as well as she was weaving through cars, occasionally by driving on the wrong lane! It was a smooth drive nonetheless and they were both proud of their driving licenses.

We took a Photo Pass which cost £20 but it gives you 4 photos, each can be from any rides in the whole park, and it has no expiry either (either that or a it can be used within a year or something) so you can always use it for another day. It's good if you want more than 1 photo.

Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Legoland Windsor Duplo Valley

Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Legoland Windsor Duplo Valley

We popped over to Duplo Valley and The Princess and the Pea was just about to start at the Duplo Theatre Puppet Show! We loved the narrator, she's very cheerful and has a lovely voice too! We found out the next day that she's been performing in other live shows as well in between breaks. The puppet show was really funny and there were the odd humours dedicated for us parents as well!

It was a shame that it was chucking down or I'm sure it would have been very appealing to the kids to change into swim suits and jump straight into Duplo's Splash and Play

Like many other families, we decided to sit at the theatre and bought some fried chicken meals to share from the Fried Chicken Express stall. We could have packed our own picnic I suppose, but without the stroller we rather not be carrying bags of food around. It is a holiday for us as well after all! The fried chicken and chips are not bad either, though it's not very flexible as you have to stick to the type of drink that comes with the meal deal. I guess it's to keep the queue short when it become busy.

Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Legoland Windsor Fire Academy

Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Legoland Windsor Fire Academy

Next we went to the Fire Academy, and I had to dig out a pack of sweets for the crying Clay as he wasn't allowed on the fire engine he loved most. We didn't know there was a height limit for this "ride", and I don't recall seeing the sign regarding height limit (1metre). We must have missed it when we ran excitedly to the end of the queue!

Anyway, hubby was huffing and puffing his way through the ride while Abby was enjoying the fun splashing at the building! Unfortunately since Abby wasn't doing any pumping to keep the fire engine going, they came last haha bless!

Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Legoland Windsor Pirate Shores 2014

Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Legoland Windsor Pirate Shores 2014

We were so happy that we visited Legoland after the Pirate Shores reopened! We love pirates! Arrr!!

Abby got a gold medal for collecting gold from the Gold Wash, and me and her (hubby had to look after Clay) had a blast at the Pirate Falls Treasure Chest log flume ride! It was hilarious as we both zipped all the way up and even put our hoods on. We did notice that there seem to be a timing issue with the sprays during the ride, so we remained pretty much dry until the end part. The ride going up made us hang onto the boat with our dear lives, and we shrieked on the way down! We were extremely lucky as there were no passer-byes shooting water jets at us right after we took our hoods off!

We wanted to get the picture but because my massive hood has covered my whole head, it showed me as a creepy hooded figure so we had to let the picture go.

We also went to see the Pirates Stunt Show the next day at Skeleton Bay and it was hilarious! We had to watch it twice! (See below)

Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Legoland Windsor Knights Kingdom

Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Legoland Windsor Knights Kingdom

We walked further into the park to see the Knights Kingdom (very impressive!), but the ride is definitely for older kids. Abby made a wish at the fountain though!

Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Legoland Windsor Land of the Vikings

We walked passed the Land of the Vikings and saw this giant spider wriggling its legs! Eeek!! We saw the Vikings River Splash when we took the Hill Train but Clay wasn't allowed on and we would definitely need to be waterproofed, so we decided not to bother. We will definitely come back for it though!

Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Legoland Windsor Miniland

We slowly made our way to Miniland, and it was not mini at all! It's massive! There was so much to see and both kids were really fascinated about everything, especially those that can move! All the buildings were really impressive and so detailed too! The NASA rocket launch was most impressive of course, as a big cloud of white smoke puffed out from under the rocket after the count down!

When we got to the Imagination Centre area, I did something totally out of character. I'm scared of height, and I'm normally the one who says no to everything, but I actually took Abby on the Space Tower! It's high, it requires effort, but we did it! We didn't get right to the top of course as my phobia kicked in as soon as we were nearing the top! I shrieked every time I let go of the cord a tad too much as we really fell instead of gradually dropping, which was what I thought when I saw others doing it!

It was hilarious though and I was so proud of myself! Poor hubby thought that he got away with it, but Abby hasn't stopped bugging him to take her on the ride again until the end of Day 2 when they finally got on!

There were lots of Easter workshops going on at the Imagination Centre which requires advanced booking. We wanted to attend them the next day but it meant that we will have to keep track of time and have to plan everything around the clock, so we decided to leave it for next time.

It's very hard to leave Legoland without popping into one of the gift shops, especially the one next to the entrance - The Big Shop! As an Easter treat and to award Abby for her hard work at school in the last term (she did really well and there was a huge improvement in her term report!), we gave them each a budget to spend at the shop. We decided to do this at the end of day 1 so that they can play with their LEGO in the hotel (picture was taken at home).

I had to buy the Legoland Windsor photo frame as it has Legoland Windsor stamped on it! I also bought myself a purple brick key chain to hold my first ever car key! We bought a couple more Lego Mixels pack as well for Abby as she has been asking for them since we first reviewed them. They can be combined to make bigger Mixels! The green board will be great for stopmotion video or to hold things together.

Abby chose Lego Disney Princesses Brave set, which included the ever so adorable 3 brother bears! It would be perfect if mum bear is there too! She also bought a pen as she has lost one the previous night at our first hotel. Clay chose the Jake's Treasure Hunt set as he really loves pirates (i guess he has too many cars now!).

Day 2:

Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Legoland Windsor Lego City Pirates of Skeleton Bay Stunt Show

Posy Abby at the LEGO City "Book Shop" - TWICE Upon a Time...?!

A night's rest and a 4 star breakfast, and we were off again! The weather was lovely and there were definitely more people at Legoland! Probably also because we arrived an hour later than the day before. After a day's fun, we just wanted to take it easy in the morning.

The first place we went to was the Skeleton Bay in Lego City for the Pirates Stunt Show. We saw the girl from Duplo's Puppet Theatre Show we went to see the day before! I love it that they are genuinely enjoying what they are doing! The show was absolutely hilarious and we couldn't stop laughing! Initially the kids weren't too keen, especially Abby when she heard that she might get splashed at! But they had so much fun they found another opportunity later in the day to watch the show again!

There was a long debate between me and hubby regarding where the centre of the stage is. It was right where we were facing (see above picture), keep that in mind when you visit next if you want to see everything. Actually you do get to see everything even from the sides, the layout was well planned, but you get to see more clearly if you are in the centre of course.

We slowly made our way to the Kingdom of the Pharaohs, and stopped over for Digger Challenge. Wish there was a medal to be won as hubby and Clay did pretty well! Abby had fun steering the trucks around as well, though it does cost £1 per turn!

We decided to get one of the refillable bottle as a treat. The kids were fighting over it! It's a shame that the bottle leaks and you have to keep it straight.

Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Legoland Windsor Lego City Orient Expedition

When we saw the Orient Expedition the day before, we were at the spot where you can fire jets at it! I love it how Legoland extended the fun to passer-byes as well! I always knew that the people behind LEGO have their cheeky side, I just love it that they implemented it in their resort too!

We decided to take the ride to get splashed, but it was a shame that the odd sprays weren't working. Hopefully they'll be fixed next time we visit again! Although me and hubby sat on each end, ready to protect the kids from water jets, Clay (he refused to put his hood on as he saw no reason why he needed it on this fine day) was the one who got sprayed fully in the face. Twice!

Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Legoland Windsor Kingdom of Pharaohs

Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Legoland Windsor Kingdom of Pharaohs

As we were still full from breakfast, we decided to take the Laser Raiders ride at the Kingdom of the Pharaohs first before having lunch, even though the estimated queuing time was 75 minutes. It was worse than we thought though, as at one point, they have stopped the queue from moving to clear the overflow area before us. I guess with the weather being so nice, they thought that people shouldn't mind queuing outside the building, and the air inside will only get stuffer with the warmer weather so they need less people inside to keep the oxygen and airflow up. It's a very good reason, but we were at a standstill for a good half an hour. A queue is fine as long as it keeps moving, but I guess it's unavoidable.

We were a bit disappointed with the ride. Perhaps it was the long standstill, we though that, comparing it to the Legoland Discovery Center in Manchester Trafford Centre one, it was a bit disappointing. There wasn't enough time to shoot at things (the cart only stopped for about 5 seconds each time), and the ride was a bit short too. I guess after such a long wait you do ended up expecting a bit more.

After the ride, we went back to Lego City for lunch at the brand new The Burger Kitchen. There is actually another one in the Pirates Shores, but Abby wanted to come back for the rides and the Lego City one was nearer to them. The food was pretty good, both price and taste is a bit like Burger King. The kids also got a clippable The LEGO Movie badge with their meals.

On our way back to the rides, the kids ran to watch the Pirate Stunt Show again, this time from the far end. It's just as funny as the first time we've watched it! We reckon it must be quite tiring to do the stunts every hour (I think), especially the jumping off the tower and swim back to shore parts!

The rides in the Kingdom of Pharaohs are more suitable for younger children. We watched Abby going on the Thunder Blazer, and she looked like she was lounging in the back garden enjoying the sun! The Desert Chase (Carousel) was pretty fast, especially the spinning cup the kids were sitting in, but they had so much fun!

Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Legoland Windsor Space Tower

After 3 days of fun (we went to Little Fun Fest in Cheshire before driving down to Legoland), me and hubby finally gave in. We were knackered and decided to take the Hill Train back to the beginning, then walked our way down to the Space Tower to satisfy Abby's request to take the ride again with her daddy. Hubby was dreading it, but it's obvious he actually enjoyed it! They even reached the top!

Legoland Windsor 2014, Legoland Windsor Easter, Legoland Windsor Hotel
Legoland Hotel. Maybe next time!
Even though we were really tired at the end, we had an amazing time at Legoland, and would definitely want to come back again! Abby said that she wished there was a bit more girly things around, so hopefully the amazing people behind Legoland will include Lego Friends Heartlake City on the map!

Something worth mentioning as well is their toilet facilities. There is always a toilet nearby, and not only are they clean and there are obviously plenty of baby changing rooms available, the standard cubicles are bigger as well. They've obviously kept the word "families" in mind when they designed the park. Knowing that parents will go into the cubicles with their children, space is definitely needed.

Bye for now Legoland, we will definitely be back again!
