For the past 2 years I've been looking at teepees and tents on Pinterest, hoping that one day I can get one for my own kids. The price is quite dear though and an almost permanent space in the house will be required, then there is no guarantee that my kids won't outgrow them for a good few years to make our money worth either, so I have been resisting the temptation.
Back in January I saw pl-ug at the Toy Fair, and it has immediately caught my attention. A few simple connectable parts and you can build your own den/ tent/ teepee anywhere at home, how clever is that? Not only have they kindly offered a Den Kit for me to give away on my Easter Guide, they have also offered us one to review too!
The pl-ug Den Kit (rrp £15.00, suitable for 5 years+) comes with 2 clamps, 2 hooks, 2 suckers, 4 grips and 1 Keep Out sign. Children just need a bedsheet to get building their den!
The den kit has impressed my technical hubby! I agree that it is very clever. Just 2 suckers and 2 hooks, connected to 4 grips made a fairly stable and massive den in our living room. All we needed was sturdier chairs, or something heavy to put on them to make them more stable (they are plastic children chairs, after all). The grips held the double bedsheet well and the suckers never gave up either even after we stretched the bedsheet out so much.
There is something about having a piece of cloth on top of the kids. It made them giddy and all you can hear is whispers and giggles. Without further instructions, the kids helped themselves with cushions and cuddled comfortably inside the massive den. At night they even moved it to their bedroom and constructed it on top of their double bed! We had to remove it because the curtains won't close. I think with the Canopy (rrp £25.00) or Ultimate (rrp £50.00) Den Kits we should be able to sort this problem out, and the kids can enjoy camping indoor (or out!) without compromising the privacy at night.
The pl-ug Den Kit is definitely worth investing in. Not only can you use it indoor AND outdoor as well, they grow with your kids! It encourage children's construction skill and imagination, allowing them to build a den in the shape that suits them. And they can change it any time they want! We are only limited by the size of our house at the moment. I'll definitely consider getting the other 2 kits when we move to a bigger house. And perhaps by then they will have even more choices too!
