Mooncakes 2015

custard pie/ tart mooncakes, snowskin mooncakes, moonfestival

I haven't made mooncakes in years, but couldn't resist after seeing post after post of Snowskin mooncakes appearing on my Facebook timeline! This year's Moon/ Lunar Festival will be on Sunday 27th September 2015, so I thought I'll make some as well for fun.

Shortcrust Custard Mooncake

My favourite mooncakes are actually Thousand Layers mooncakes (I'll make them one day and show them to you. They just involve a bit more work), and I was never really keen in Snowskin mooncakes (it's like a bigger version of Mochi), but one tend to forget their likes and dislikes! It was still fun making them, and Hubby and Abby like them so that's good enough for me!

I've also  made  attempted to make one of the more popular mooncakes in Hong Kong - Shortcrust Custard mooncake. Technically you can call it a custard pie, but hey, it is a mooncake so we will stick to calling it a mooncake. It was a fairly unsuccessful attempt because I "couldn't be bothered" to do the vital step, so they cracked and lost their pattern! Next time. So far it's my second favourite mooncake, and Hubby and Clay like them too.

It was a fun mooncake making session. Next I'll be attempting to make Deco Roll! It's not trendy anymore but if I succeed, they will certainly make gorgeous Christmas gifts! Don't be shocked, there is only 93 days left till Christmas!
