|I always ended up with a cupcake case hiding underneath another!|
We ended up making 15 mini cupcakes (I lost a cupcake case, which was hiding under another one. It happens every time!) plus 6 standard cupcakes, using a really simple sponge cake recipe. I think the kids did quite well filling the cases up with minimum spillage! But most of the cupcakes didn't survive long enough to be decorated! I had to become this mean mum to save some cupcakes for decoration and pictures!
The star piping tip is the perfect shape for the best cupcake swirls out there! For some reason I kept getting the wrong one (there are so many designs out there!), so I was really happy when I saw the piping tip in the set! The kids had no idea about my excitement of course, they just loved piping yummy buttercream on their cakes (which ended up straight in their little mouths after I snapped a picture!). Abby has done a surprisingly good job here! I didn't need to guide her much and she did a beautiful swirl, I think she has the potential of being a baker!
While we had fun making these pretty little happinesses, I also used the opportunity to test my Russian Piping Tips - rose and cherry blossom. Can you spot the mini cupcake overloaded with buttercream blossoms, and the 3 roses on another? These Russian piping tips make decorating cakes so much easier!
The bottom right picture features a couple of chocolate decorations we made last week using Real Baking Chocolate Pen kit! They are soo cute on cupcakes! I should make some more for Halloween and Christmas, maybe with orange and purple icing instead.
So what have you been baking this week? x
