Foodies Festival 2017 at Tatton Park

Last year, while we were at Tatton Park's Geronimo Festival, we had a sneak peak of the Foodies Festival that was happening at the same time, so we decided to visit this year and check them out. We bought the 2 for 1 tickets (children under 12 goes free), and when the lovely PR from the Foodies Festival knew about it, she bumped us up to VIP, so that we can check out the shows as well!

We were glad that we went to the festival and had an excellent time there. Even the kids enjoyed it and had a great day out!

We tried plenty of food and drinks (mainly for adults), found new products that we would buy again (and bought some to take home too), and have enjoyed the theatre demonstrations. The kids also had fun making their own Dough Balls and Butter at the Kids Cookery Theatre!

Here are some recaps of our day:

We had the BBQ flavour on our Twist a Chip, which was super tasty (you'll definitely need a drink with this!), although we think it can be a bit crispier. The kids didn't mind and wanted another one!

Every time we spotted Snowdonia Cheese Company at a festival, we always end up buying cheese from them! This time we went for their Bouncing Berry and Pickled Cheese. We missed trying out the famous Black Bomber, but have taken note to try it out next time!

I forgot to take pictures but we also bought absolutely delicious bacon from Spoilt Pig. Seriously, if you see them in the shops, get some! There is something about their bacon that makes their taste stand out so much!

We also had lunch from a mixed grill place, but it wasn't very exciting.

These fried calamari from iCalamari were tender, juicy, freshly fried and tasty! The right one is a mixed seafood one (I forgot what it's called), and we all really enjoyed them. The only thing I think can improve on is their paper cones, as grease was dripping through the bottom all over the kids' coats that we were holding!

If you see them at a festival, go for it, just watch your clothes!

We have always been a fan of Bonne Maman, whether it's their conserves, cakes or puddings. They were giving out free puddings for visitors to try, which was definitely the sample of the day! The mousses were light, but we all prefer their original Creme Caramel as well as their dreamy Salted Caramel.

Last year we sneaked on the side of the Foodies Festival and bought us some Churros, which were really long but quite hard. These Churros were perfect, although we could do with a bit more cinnamon sugar.

On our way out, we spotted a massive queue for Crispy Duck Pancakes. We didn't join the queue but were fascinated by it.

We were given welcome bubblies at the VIP tent, which you can buy from Co-Op. We aren't really wine people, and it was too early for us to be drinking (others beg to differ hehe), but we both think they were quite easy to drink.

The kids were happily helping themselves with unlimited juices, cookies, crisps and sweets! There were also free teas and coffees, and private seating area. VIPs also get to book tickets for shows through the VIP tent, and sit at the front 2 rows. And there are guaranteed goodie bags too, with samples and recipe cards.

The first place we stopped over in the morning was at Green Tea Artisan, where they sell green tea drinks, matcha powder and tea ceremony equipments. What I'm impressed with is their 3 types of Matcha (most companies sell 1, maximum 2 types), with the left 2 recommended for drinking, and the one on the right for cooking, as the top quality matcha can be really expensive.

For me, I would use the top grade for both drinking and baking, mainly because the colour of the top grade matcha really makes a difference in your baking, whether it's Macarons or cakes. Green Tea Artisan's top grade matcha has a very smooth texture as well.

The Kendal Mint Cake Liqueur is the best drink I've tried at the Foodies Festival. Probably the best I've tried in any foodies events! I'm just not really a person who likes the alcohol taste, and I can just about take small sips from Bailey's. But this! This will be my weakness. I will happily drink this on its own, without the need to chill it!

If you love mint chocolates like After Eight, seriously, you will fall in love with this. There is no powerful alcohol after taste (albeit it being 24% VOL), but you will feel the heat slowly seeping up.

We didn't buy it as I know I'll drink the whole bottle (they do mini ones) on the spot. I will however buy it for this Christmas (how can I not relate?!), and most likely won't share. Ok maybe I might use a tiny bit to make that yummy looking cocktail for everyone.

Talking about generous stalls, Belvoir Fruit Farm lined up tanks of cordials for customers to try, and the cheeky kids couldn't stop visiting them (so embarrasing seriously...)! But they really are delicious, so we bought 3 bottles of cordials to take home.

We bought some Strawberry Lemonade for the kids to share as they were extremely thirsty, and they really enjoyed it, especially when there were real strawberry pieces inside!

However, I think the next time we attend a foodies event, we will have to bring some water with us. There is plenty of alcohol around, but non-alcoholic drinks not so much. With all the yummy food and a long day, we constantly find ourselves feeling dehydrated.

Thanks to the PR, we get to sit up close at the cooking theatre (we chose the baking one), and we saw not 1 but 2 Master Chef winners on the same stage at the same time! It was Master Chef 2016 Jane Devonshire's Gluten Free Scones demonstration, and she managed to tag Master Chef 2015 Simon Wood along with her!

They were both amazing, and the scones are surprisingly delicious!

We were planning to leave early, but the kids really wanted to do the Kids' Cookery Theatre with Kiddy Cook, and we were all glad that we waited. We weren't sure what they signed up for at the beginning, but seeing that they get to make their own dough balls, churning butter and tasting it, as well as watching the teacher make a fizz bomb using vinegar and baking soda (food science!), it was well worth it!

There was live music on stage too, although most of the time we weren't aware of them, until lunch time when we sat nearby hehe.

Overall we had a really great time at the Foodies Festival. There were plenty of stalls for both food and drinks, although I wouldn't mind seeing even more food stalls, as we are foodies after all! There were plenty of drink stalls, so if you love your beer or discover a new taste, the Foodies Festival is quite good for them too, just make sure you get someone else to drive you!

We will definitely go again to the Foodies Festival!
