#StrictlyComeGelaPeel with Gel-a-Peel Fashion Station

Are you a Strictly Come Dancing fan? I think my favourite part of the show is the costumes, they are always so sparkly and mesmerising!

Although we can't make costumes like that, there is still plenty of Strictly Come Dancing inspired crafts we can do, especially with Gel-a-Peel's new Fashion Station, which includes sparkly and luxury silicone gel colours, as well as templates for you to make clutches! Together with the gem tray that came with the Gel-a-Peel Pearly Pastel Kit, there is a lot of fashion bling you can make!

Gel-a-Peel Fashion Station (RRP £29.99, suitable for age 8+) comes with:
  • Fashion Station
  • 9 stencils (25 designs), 2 clutch bag templates, a drawing sheet and a double sided design sheet
  • 5 tubes of Gel-a-Peel silicone gels in Pearly Black, Pearly Gold, Pearly Plum, Pearly Lilac, Sparkle Light Pink and Sparkle Violet
  • 3 round piping tips, 1 small star tip and 3 rake tips
  • 2 Squeegee scrapers
  • 1 Cleaning tool
  • 1 pair of earrings findings
  • 3 pairs of snap buttons
  • 1 Guideline leaflet
There are 2 sheets of butterflies templates, and they seem to overlap to make butterflies with patterns! We really love the stencil designs!

The Gel-a-Peel Fashion Station has a design panel that can be removed, revealing a storage compartment for all the stencils and gel trays. There is also a compartment for all the tips and other bits. I noticed that the design for the tip holders are different from the Gel-a-Peel 3D Design Station, which is quite good as the tips will stay in place (it falls off sometimes with the 3D Design Station).

You can place up to 6 tubes of Gel-a-Peel silicone gels in the station, ready for you to pick and use on your template, and there is even a slot for the larger Squeegee!

The design panel, when placed on the Fashion Station, fits a gel tray or clear drawing sheet so you can design using the station. When it's removed, you can clip a fabric between the black frame and the pink base to keep it in place, then slide a template into the black frame, so you can fill the stencil without worrying about smudging (see examples below).

I used the gold in attempt to make a Strictly Come Dancing inspired clutch, but because we also used it for something else before, there wasn't enough to fill 3/4 of the gel tray. It's still not too bad I think? I added rhinestones as well to make them extra sparkly, although come to think of it, I could have used more Gel-a-Peel silicone gels to replace them!

After I took over the Gel-a-Peel Fashion Station as soon as we received it, Abby finally got a chance to have a go herself, and she decorated a drawstring bag that is now holding all the creams and hair bobbles she needs every morning!

We had to cut the Ice-cream and cupcake stencil into half as it won't fit the single design onto the bag correctly, and stuck it down with washi tapes (masking tapes).

After showing Abby what to do, she did the rest of her cupcake and the ice-cream at the back of the bag herself. They look very good, and she found an easier way to do it as well (more about this below), so kids her age can definitely do this on their own.

She really love her bag and it makes us all happy to see it each morning!

So we discovered 2 ways to apply the silicone gel on to the template. I did a more complicated one where I piped 2 colours on the edge of the pattern, overlapping in the middle, and then swipe them across the stencil to get a gradient effect. This will give you a more natural blend in the middle, but you do need to watch where your squeegee is going, and when you need to touch any part up, you'll need to use the correct colour to go over it:

Sparkly Light Pink on top and Pearly Lilac at the bottom, overlapping in the middle

Swiped the 2 colours from top to bottom. Lots of left overs on the Squeegee but you do need enough

Some Sparkle Light Pink didn't fill the pattern properly, so need to put more on it, while avoiding the blended layer

So when I re-did the black and gold, some of the additional black went over the fold. Luckily it wasn't too smudged. By the way I think this black and gold together is very mature! Girls can definitely design and make something with these colours for grown ups!

Abby found it too fussy to worry about the gradient, so she did 1 colour at a time for her ice-cream. It's easier, but there is less blend between each colour this way (you can compare the ice-cream and cupcake below). To our surprise however, the effect is still really nice! In fact I think it made the ice-cream stand out more because there it is not as blurred.

I'm sure there are other ways to do this too, these are just what we discovered.

We had lots of fun with the Gel-a-Peel Fashion Station, but we aren't stopping here! There is plenty for us to do for our #StrictlyComeGelaPeel projects, like these gems we are curing/ drying at the moment:

We just need to find something to decorate with them!
