Get Arty and Crafty with John Adams Craft Club ft. eZee Beads 3D Mini Scenes

We are loving all the craft kits from John Adams, who has kindly sent them to us to celebrate their Facebook Craft Club launch! If you haven't yet, do give them a follow as you'll get so much out from one Facebook page, including prizes to be won, craft tips/ ideas and read all our John Adams craft products reviews as well as those by others before you buy.

So far we have reviewed John Adams' Pixelo Neon and Blopens Glitter Studio, which are both fantastic craft products that gives you different effects for your art and craft projects.

For our last launch celebration review, we have John Adams' eZee Beads 3D Mini Scenes, which the kids kept fighting over to do (it doesn't help when they have to wait for the project to dry before the next one can have their turn. I'll probably need to get another one so they can play it nicely together).

The eZee Beads 3D Mini Scenes kit (RRP £19.99, suitable for 5 years+) comes with:

  • 4 x 3D Mini Scenes design cards
  • 15 packets of eZee Beads (2 x white, 1 x yellow, 1 x orange, 1 x red, 1 x light pink, 1 x pink, 1 x purple, 1 x blue, 2 x light green, 3 x green and 1 x brown, a total of 11 colours and over 1200 beads)
  • Bead Tray
  • Water spray bottle
  • 4 Plastic pegs
  • Bead Storage (8 compartments)
  • Bead Tool
  • Instructions with pictures

As there are 11 colours but 8 compartments in the storage, we combined a few colours together. They are still fairly easy to find, and the bead tool definitely make it easier to pick up the bead you want.

There are more beads than you will need for all the 3D mini scenes, but I would recommend getting creative or making another mini scene again after you've completed all the designs, so you'll know what you can spare.

Fill the water spray bottle with water, slide a design under the bead tray and you are good to go!

For demonstration purpose, I picked the bunny scene to make (I'm allowed some fun too!). Simply place the coloured beads on the tray that corresponds to the design card below, then spray evenly with water all over the beads. Set aside to dry.

This step will give you 2D designs, but you will be combining them into a 3D mini scene in the next step.

Use the clever bead tool (left picture shows you the other end you can use to pick up loose beads)'s spatula end to help release the design from the bead tray. This tool makes it 10 times easier than you trying to pick it out with your fingers while not breaking the design (they do stay on properly, much better than other brands we tried in fact, but when you pull it out from the tray, it has a higher chance to split).

Based on the instructions, fit the 2D pieces together, and create the flower stalks (I made the yellow one 2 beads too short as I didn't spot the instructions until now. Silly me.). When dry, you can simply fit it into the hole that's in the base of the 3D scene.

I sprayed the whole scene again with water to glue the connected parts together. A tip? Don't dry them on a piece of tissue. I don't even know why I did that.. Fit it back on the tray to dry or on a silicone mat if someone took over the bead tray.

Anyway, it's still a very cute 3D mini scene, and it's so simple and fun to make. The only thing really is waiting for them to dry. So if you have other kits, always make sure that you keep all the trays!

This picture showed the short moment of Abby helping Clay make his eZee Beads scene during his turn, when he got fed up as he didn't get to place the beads himself. So Abby started picking on possibly spare beads (we'll find out eventually) to make her own creation on the tray while Clay tried completing his scene. I did try to tempt one to do other crafts, but they both just wanted to do eZee Beads! If you have more than 1 child, be warned.

I should have known really, as we have reviewed eZee Beads Garden Bugs and Flowers last year and Abby loved it so much she has been asking when she can make them again. I was at that time dreading having loose beads everywhere (that's the only problem I had with the smaller starter packs), so to be very honest, have been avoiding the craft.

The eZee Beads 3D Mini Scenes Kit is definitely a step up though. Not only because of the 3D creations you can make with this kit, but it also comes with a bead storage to store all your loose beads (no more beads falling out from the box problem!), and that bead tool make picking beads and removing designs so much easier!

I think the starter packs are fun and you do get everything you need to craft, but I would definitely recommend a bigger kit for the additional tools, just to make organising and crafting with eZee Beads much easier. You can then collect all the cute starter packs and use the storage and tool from the bigger set.

I'll definitely be including eZee Beads on this year's Christmas shopping list.
