Num Noms Nail Polish Maker

We love everything Num Noms. They started out as scented collectibles, but have now expanded and included a lot of other merchandises in their range such as Num Noms Surprise in a Jar, Num Noms Magazine, stationery, accessories etc, and we love them all!

They are all cute and yummy scented (even the magazines comes with scented gifts), but our favourite has to be the Num Noms playsets, because you can actually craft things with them while role-playing with the Num Noms collectibles as well.

We've reviewed the Num Noms Lip Gloss Truck in the beginning of the year, which comes with ingredients for us to make our own lip gloss Noms. We are lucky enough to be given another opportunity to review one of Num Noms' latest playset - Num Noms Nail Polish Maker, and we think it's even better than the Num Noms Lip Gloss Truck!

As soon as I saw this decoration on top of the Nail Polish Cafe, I thought of the Num Noms Lip Gloss Truck. I love the matching details so you can put the playsets together and create a mini Num Noms town (the other playsets have matching pastel colours).

Like the Num Noms Lip Gloss Truck, you have 3 Noms containers so you can create 3 nail polishes at a time. They can be washed out and reused, although the instructions did say that the colours might not completely come off the containers (but it won't taint the new nail polish colour).

To set up the Nail Polish Cafe, slide the unwrapped nail polish bottles into the Cafe bar. On the other side of the cafe, you'll have the donut table, which acts as a storage for the spare nail disc, as well as a tool you can hold while painting the nail discs. Stickers can go into the little magazine rack. And when you want to paint your own nail or stick the nail stickers on, you can use the stool to rest your finger on.

For role-playing, you can have the Nums sitting on the stools instead!

Each Num Noms playset comes with an exclusive scented squishy Num, and the one for the Num Noms Nail Polish Maker is Heavenly Froyo. The hole at the top is to reveal the nail polish container Nom's swirly cap when they are stacked together (see last picture below). You can fit the brushless cap into Heavenly Froyo as well without the Nom.

To make your own nail polish, take one of the Nom container with cap removed. Place it under a colour, turn the colour cap (the cap, not the bottle) to the left slowly until you can squeeze the content out. Be very careful because if you unscrew too much, they will leak from the top. Make sure you screw it tight again after, but keep the container underneath, or a tissue, as a drop will appear when you close the cap.

All the scents smells absolutely delicious, and you can actually smell a mix berry smell when you mixed the blueberry and strawberry together! The banana is also very much like the banana smell you get from delicious treats.

Add all the colours and glitter you need, then top it up with the pearlescent base until it reaches just under the Nom's bow. Close the cap tight and shake to get most of the colours and glitter off the base. Do note that shaking too much will create bubbles inside.

For a gentler mix, clip the Nom into the spinner as per instructions, and turn the handle for about a minute until it's completely mixed. it's now ready to use!

Tip: Make sure that the bottle tip goes all the way into the Nom container before you release the contents, otherwise it might create an air bubble at the top of the container, blocking the hole.

Note: The colouring does tint your skin and nails, but will be completely removed after a few washes. You might prefer to paint the plastic nails and then stick them onto your nails instead.

For role-play, you have just made a mixed berry milkshake, ready to be served to your Num customers! Come to think of it, the pearlescent base does has a thick, slightly foamy texture, just like milkshake!

Just wanted to show you the difference between different number of coatings. In the left picture from left to right, we did 1 coat, 2 coats and 3 coats.

When you've painted your nails, you can also stick the really cute nail stickers on.

Although Clay didn't want the nail polish on, he wanted to mix a nail polish. He added blue and yellow together, which we weren't too keen in at the beginning as we imagined a sickly green colour that we wouldn't want to use. Surprisingly, it came out a beautiful teal that is actually Abby's favourite colour!

Abby and mine are both a mix of blue and red, but I added an extra drop of blue in mine, while she had 2 extra drops of red (actually a few but we lost count as it dripped a couple of extra drops into the bottle when we tried to close the cap quickly!). So we ended up with 2 very different colours, mine a (Disney) Cinderella blue, and Abby's a gorgeous lilac, all pearlescent with a touch of glitter (we should put more next time!):

Although the colouring looks really strong on their own, mixing them with the pearlescent base really makes a difference. We probably need to get extra containers (although they won't be as cute as the Nom ones!) to experiment with other colours!

Overall we really love the Num Noms Nail Polish Maker. You can get so much fun out of it, and the whole set smells really nice (you can smell them from outside the box). It'll be the perfect Christmas gift for fans this Christmas.
