Something New - Samsung Galaxy S2

Remember last month I was contemplating about whether I should buy a Samsung Galaxy S2 (See  To Buy or Not To Buy)? Well, I bought it! I quickly familiarise myself with the phone, and I'm loving it more by the minute!

It's so slim it takes some getting used to!

My old Samsung Jet (Left) and new Samsung Galaxy S2 (Right)

About the product:

  • Price (depends on your contract)
  • 4.3" SUPER AMOLED Plus display
  • Slim (8.49mm thick)
  • Dual Core Application Processor
  • 8MP camera with LED flash, 2MP front camera

My review:

As I've pointed out before, this phone is big. And you can see why I said that from the above picture, I'm just too used to my Jet. To me it was perfect in both size and weight. But it just isn't a smartphone! I still went for the phone as the deal was attractive for a top phone in the market.

I couldn't understand the instruction for opening the back cover (slide it down then sideways?!), so I had to look it up at the quick guide (I normally don't do manuals!). And I was amused by the warning message:

They were more concerned about my finger nails (for prying the cover open) than the flimsy thin cover! The back cover case I bought made it more sturdy for me.

Anyway, it didn't take long to get used to the phone. Suddenly the screen on my husband's iPhone 3GS is too small, fussy and dim. We both fell in love with Galaxy S2 and after the news came out that there won't be an iPhone 5, hubby has decided that he's converting to Android. (Deciding between Galaxy S2 and a HTC)

I shouldn't be so excited about the 8MP camera, as I have a 12MP camera at home. But for whatever reason, the pictures taken with the S2 is much brighter than my camera!

Obviously I'm not a great photographer, I'm not even an amateur photographer. But I can tell the difference here! I also like the fact that I can tell the camera where to focus, and then snap the picture. I just need a steady hand to do this! Did you notice that the pictures on my Yogurt Cupcake post were sharper? They've been taken by my S2!

I'm also happy that I can personalise my phone. Not like an iPhone where when one rings nearby, everyone will go for their own (they are all the same! "Baa Baa")

I just realised that this is my 4th Samsung mobile phone, I just can't resist the bright and sharp screen, lovin' it!

Oh, if you've decided to buy it, remember to do a system update, it will fix the early bugs like unstable Wi-Fi.
